Burning Proof by Janice Cantore is book 2 in the Cold Case Justice series. In this book we get to follow along with Detective Abby Hart and Private investigator Luke Murphy as they go through the struggles of their jobs and cases they are working on as well as their personal lives.
Abby was arresting a man who murdered his neighbor girl when the girl’s father came to the house and attempted to shot the murder. Abby was forced to shot him to save the murderer, her partner and her lives. She struggles with having shot the father and takes time away from her job. She goes to visit her aunt and helps her fiance with a mission project. She questions if she should be in law enforcement anymore. She also continues to question her relationship with her fiance.
Luke was offered a job working in cold cases and is working on closing his cases before he starts his new job. One of the things that needs to be done is to help his friend and co-worker, Woody clean out Asa Fosters home after his death. In Asa’s belongs they find case files linked to the deaths of Abby’s parents and Luke’s uncle many years earlier.
I really like this series. There is a lot happening in the story and the story pulled me in. I like that the story followed through with Abby and Luke’s lives and it showed their faith when they were struggling with job and personal issues. There are a lot of characters in the story, but the author does a very good job of reminding the reader who the characters are and how they are tied into the story. This is a good clean Christian crime novel with just a touch of romance mixed in with the suspense and mystery. The story is very realistic and well written.
I received a copy of this book from Book Club Network for an honest review.
