Drawing Fire is a suspense novel written by retired police officer Janice Cantore.  This is book 1 in the Cold Case Justice series.
Abby Hart is a homicide detective working on the Long Beach Police Force. The week she is on call after hours, an elderly women, the aunt of the governor, is killed. Luke Murphey, a private Investigator working in the area, witnessed someone leaving the ladies home and being suspicious, he called the police.

Abby’s parents were killed in a fire 28 years before and the crime had never been solved. She dreams of finding her parent’s murder. Luke’s uncle was also killed as a result of the fire. Luke’s uncle worked for Abby’s parents at the restaurant. When the murderer set it on fire, Abby had been in the office sleeping and Luke’s uncle had been in a different room. He grabbed Abby and got her out but he died later. Abby and Luke find out their connection and work together to try to solve the cold case. They also have cases they are working on that are connected. Luke and Abby start to have feelings for each other.

Abby’s fiance, Eathan Carver, is on a mission trip. He does not like Abby working in the police field and tries to get her to quit. But Abby feels her work is a mission just as his is. She claims Hebrews 4:13 as her holy homicide motto You can run but, You can’t hide .

I really liked this book. It is fast paced with a touch of romance mixed in with the suspence and mystery.  There is a lot going on in the story but is written in a way that is it not confusing.  I like that it is a clean Christian story and is very realistic.
