So Much The Better is such a cute children’s book written by Megan Means. Ari is a young lion who is swept away from him home by the Black Wind. Eliezer is an eagle that sees Ari and helps him with his return home. Eliezer tells Ari that he will help Ari, that Ari is not alone. Eliezer teaches Ari about the caution needed while traveling through the dark forest to remain safe. Ari meets up with several other animals in the forest. He meets up with a badger and feels threatened but remembers Eliezer told him “A soft answer turns away anger” so he is polite and befriends the badger. He becomes friends with a colorful happy bird and a fox who go with him to his home. On his travels Eliezer teaches Ari many things that Ari thinks about as he travels home. Eliezer tells Ari “Even when you cannot see me you must have faith”. When Ari gets anxious he remembers Eliezer told him that he has gained much wisdom from his journey, to listen to wisdom and he shall live in peace, dwell in safety and will be quiet from fear.
When Ari gets home, Eliezer tells him, he has done well and that whatever he does, Eliezer knows he will have success. Eliezer tells Eri to remember a heart full of love never fails. Things at home are not what Ari expected and he is faced with dealing with difficult issues. He struggles with being alone and wonders why Eliezer would leave him when he needs Eliezer the most.
I really enjoyed reading this cute story. There are so many good lessons written within the story. There are no pictures but the story is so descriptive it is easy to imagine what the forest looks like. The story teaches about building character as well as trusting and having faith. This would be a great bedtime book to read with children.
