The Engagement Plot by Krista Phillips

97816832231602

William and Hanna took part in a reality TV dating show, The Price of Love. William proposed to Hanna at the end of the show, but then made a comment not honoring her Christian life and she broke the engagement. For six months Hannah has struggled with the press. She has quit her teaching job and has moved home with her father near Embarrass, Minnesota.

The company William works for is having problems and William convinces Hannah to pretend to be engaged to him to help turn the company around.

The Engagement Plot is a good clean romance that is fast paced and well written. There is some suspense in the story with what is happening with William’s company. The part of the story that really spoke to me was Hanna’s determination to have her Christian faith be respected with her dating William on the show. I also enjoyed the author’s portrayal of the cold, snow and mud in Minnesota. The story will be enjoyed by those who enjoy Christian romance stories.

God Bless My Family, written by Hannah C. Hall, Illustrated by Steve Whitlow

_225_350_Book.2428.cover

“ From uncles and aunts to grandparents,

We’re each so glad to be

A special part of one big heart-

God bless my whole family!”

God Bless My Family is written by Hannah C. Hall and illustrated by Steven Whitlow. This is an adorable cushioned, hard covered, board book that shows us puppies with their families having fun. The families enjoy a day at the beach, snuggle together, play together, go for walks, tell stories, and bake together. The pictures in this book are so beautiful and colorful, they will keep the youngest of child interested for some time.

I just love this little children’s book. It is very durable and easy to clean, to keep it nice longer. This book is the perfect length to read to a young child. The story is told in rhyme and the font is larger than normal for the young reader. The beautiful pictures have little things such as apples, balls, and birds for little children to pick out. This is a book that I feel any family with young children of all ages will enjoy. This book would make a wonderful Christmas gift.

Dangerous Illusions by Irene Hannon

9780800727673

Dangerous Illusions is the first book in Irene Hannon’s new series, Code of Honor. Trish has been staying with her mother, caring for her since shortly after her husband’s death. She has been sitting in with her mother and her accountant, Matt. She starts to date Matt, but on the night she plans to break it off, she comes home to find her mother has died in her sleep. The police are called and Trish is suspected of over medicating her mother. While Detective Colin Flynn is talking with Trish, Matt points out that Trish has been making a lot of mistakes.

Trish is not found responsible for her mother’s death. With the investigation over, Colin can move forward on getting to know Trish. When suspicions about Matt open up the investigation, their relationship must be put on hold.

This is a very good book. The story is so well written it was easy to get pulled into it. The parts in the book I enjoyed the most were the friendships Colin had from his youth and how they still got together on a regular basis and help each other out.

The story is full of suspense and has a lot of twist and turns in the investigation. The plot of the story thickens as the story advances, but I did not expect it to end the way it did. This is a must read for anyone who enjoys romantic suspense stories.

Vanishing Point by Lisa Harris

7043012_jumbo

Vanishing Point, by Lisa Harris, is book 4 in A Nikki Boyd Novel series. This book spans 13 years with the murder of teen age girls. Garrett Addison is a new criminal investigator with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation when his team is called out to investigate the deal of a teen age girl.

Jordan Lambert is with the FBI. One of her co-workers is assigned this case as well. Knowing her family lives in the area, he asks for her to go with him. Garrett and Jordan went to the police academy together and had not seen each other since Jordan joined the FBI. Even though both have moved on with their lives, they still have feeling for each other.

This is a very good suspenseful story that will keep you reading to find out “who done it.” Even though it is part of a series, this book is a very good stand alone story. Having read other Nikki Boyd stories I was surprised to find she was not the main character of this story. This story does cover the murder of her sister, Sarah. This is the reason Nikki goes into law enforcement.

The thing that comes out for me with this book is “Where is God when bad things happen.” I especially liked Garret and Jordan’s discussion on page 284 where they talk about when bad things happen, we start to see God’s grace.

Beneath a Prairie Moon by Kim Vogel Sawyer

9780735290051

Beneath A Prairie Moon, written by Kim Vogel Sawyer, is the best book I have read this year. It is so good, I feel it should be made into a movie. The story is so well written I felt like I was there watching everything take place.

Abigail Brantley was raised in wealth, educated at the finest school and was taught the manners of society by her mother. When her father was accused of illegal dealings, her engagement was called off. Shortly after her mother past away. With no where else to turn, she went to Helena Bingham to become a mail order bride. But the men she was sent to would not accept her.

Helena received orders from 16 men from Spiveyville, Kansas. Helena believes the men are lacking in social skills. She takes Abigail to Spiveyville to educate the men as well as the community on manners and morals as well as eating and dancing skills.

Mack Cleveland is about the only man in Spiveyville not ordering a bride. He feels that since God is the one who meant for man and woman to be together that God is the best one to bring Mack his wife. Abigail invites the whole community to her classes. When she teaches the classes, the sheriff, the pastor and Mack take turns watching over Abigail. As time moves on, the few men who did not order a bride, start to wonder if they should have.

This is a really good Christian Historical Fiction novel. There is humor, suspense and romance. I feel anyone who enjoys historical fiction, especially romance will really enjoy this story.

365 Classic Bible Stories, inspired by Jesse Lyman Hurlbut’s Story of the Bible, illustrated by Alessia Girasole

ProductImageHandler

365 Classic Bedtime Bible Stories is the perfect book to start a child on their way to taking time from each day to study from the Bible. Starting from Genesis and ending with Revelations, this book takes the majority of the Bible and makes it easy for children to understand. The illustration in this book is beautiful. The pictures are so clear and colorful and will keep the younger child’s attention while being read to. This is a great book for reading to the young child as well as a great book for the young reader .

This is a hard cover book with thicker than normal paper to help with tears from normal use. The paper is shiny to help keep it clean. The illustrations go all the way to the edge of the pages so the different colors show when the book is closed.

There are many things about this book that I really like. I like the bold font as it makes it easier to read. I like the index at the back to help the child find a specific person or event they are searching for. I love the red ribbon book mark. And, I like the very first page, being a page that the giver can write the child’s name and date of presentation. This will make a very nice gift.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review.

Really Woolly Christmas Blessings by Bonnie Rickner Jensen, Illustrated by Donna Chapman

_225_350_Book.2368.cover

Really Woolly Christmas Blessings is written by Bonnie Rickner Jensen and illustrated by Donna Chapman. The book contains 18 sections that are titled “The Blessing of”. These blessing include Jesus and the things associated with his birth as well as different things we include in our Christmas traditions. Each of the 18 sections is made up of a bible verse, a poem and end with a short prayer.

This is a hard covered board book that is very durable for young children. The pages contain brightly colored pictures and are easy to clean. There are little animals that follow through the story for children to point to. The little lamb, bunny, duck and chipmunks are really adorable.

This is a cute story book for older toddlers. Being a board book I expected to see more pictures and less words. With the 8 lined poems on each pages, this book really is not a story book to read through at one sitting for the youngest children. With the sections ending in prayers, this is a good book to help young children learn to pray to God. I think this book could be used to introduce per-schoolers to devotional time.

The Secret Life of Sarah Hollenbeck by Bethany Turner

9780800727666_p0_v4_s550x406

Sarah Hollenbeck has recently divorced her husband. He has cheated on her though out their marriage and had not shown affection to her for a long time. She decided to become an author. She wrote stories filled with steamy romance that quickly became very popular. When she becomes a Christian, she attends church with her friend. She bumps into the pastor in the hall and starts to fall for him. He is a widower with a little girl, and he develops feelings for her.

Sarah needs to figure out how to fulfill her book contract by writing a Christian novel. And Ben is faced with certain members of the congregation that do not feel his and Sarah’s relationship is right.

If you are the type of reader that likes to read read about touchy subjects, this book is for you. The story is well written with a lot of humor. I especially liked the part of the rules Sarah and Ben set for when they are dating. The part of the story that really touched me was the pain Sarah endured with her ex-husband. He withheld affection from her while having affairs and would not allow her to have a child. The story is very realistic story of a new Christian who is trying to move from their past past into their future. For these reasons this is a very good book. I have to give this book a 4 as I felt the reference to sex was to overwhelming in this story.

Lady Jane Disappears by Joanna Davidson Politano

9781493411108

Lady Jane Disappears is Joanna Davidson Politano’s first novel and what a great story it is. I believe we are seeing just the beginning of what the author is yet to bring us. This story has such a well written plot that it takes you away to England in 1861.

Aurelie Harcourt was raised in debtor’s prison by her father who was a popular writter and went by the name Nathaniel Droll. When he dies he leaves Aurelie an unfinished story to write.

Aurelie is taken away to live with her father’s family at their estate, the estate that her father has make famous though his writings. As Aurelie finishes her fathers story, she tries to dig deeper in to her mother, Lady Jane, disappearance.

This is such a great story. It is written so well you can feel the tension building as the family reads about themselves in the story. This is a good clean story with so much mystery and suspense it kept me reading. This story has just enough romance to please those who enjoy romance novels but not enough to turn off those who don’t. This story will be well liked by those who enjoy historical Christian stories, Aurelie’s strength and faith are very evident through out the whole story.

All That Glitters by Lisa J. Flickinger

All-that-Glitters

All That Glitters, by Lisa J. Flickinger, takes place during the Klondike Gold Rush period.

When Mr. Connor becomes ill, he moves his family to their Aunt Margaret’s home. Ginny Connor has met Logan Harris who leads her to believe they would get married and travel to Carson City, build a hotel and make it rich. Vivian Connor has gone to speak with the doctor to find out what her parents are not telling her. While walking there she gets hurt. Ben McCormack is in town, checking for a letter from his intended and sees her. He lends her a hand while going to the doctor. When Vivian gets home, she finds out Ginny is gone. Vivian lets her foot heal a few days and then takes the train to find Ginny. At the same time, Ben is taking the train to go to his intended.

This is a good story. The author has written this in such detail that it is easy to envision Ginny spending her time in her room on the train and to feel the pain she suffers from Logan. And it is easy to imagine how Ben must have felt when he found out who is intended really is. This is a great story of love, forgiveness and redemption.
