James and Lee: The Great Scare by Gregory James

James and Lee, the Great Scare by Gregory James is truly an amazing story. The story takes place 200 hundred years after the destruction of the earth’s surface. People are now living under the surface of the earth in tunnels. James and Lee are brothers who are working on a time machine to take them back in time. They are also the town’s librarians and are the ones people go to when they have problems. The latest string of problems is that several people have had things go missing at 6 PM the same night. James and Lee are called upon to try to find the missing items and people.

This book is an action filled satire. There are so many things I enjoyed about this book. I found myself laughing while reading. One of the things that stands out for me in this book is that those who were trying to save the earth, as we know it today, are the ones that caused the destruction. Another is the things that go missing are the things the people treasured the most. I really enjoyed the part where the author writes about the destruction of the earth’s surface. He goes through the different steps that are taken to use vehicles and pollute the earth the least. At one point hamsters are used to run the cars, until it is discovered the hamsters pollute the earth.

I just loved this book and I feel a lot of others will also enjoy it. With just 186 pages, it is a great book to read to just get lost for an evening.

Enclave by Thomas Locke

Enclave, by Thomas Locke, is a dystopian novel that takes place many years in the future. Almost 100 years after the Great Crash and the country is basically cities governing themselves with very little support from the federal government. Kevin and his mother are part of a group that rescue refugees, give them new identities and sneak them into society. With the government suspecting this is happening Kevin and his mother find themselves fleeing for their lives.

Caleb is one of many people who have special gifts that allow them to know what is happening with others. The federal government is trying to find these people so he is now being forced to flee for his safety.

This story takes off with so much going on and so many characters that I struggled through the whole story to keep up with what was happening. The story is full of action and suspense, which I enjoy, but it did not flow smoothly. The background of the story is filled in very nicely and the story ends with a fight starting. This makes we wonder if this is the beginning of a new series. If you enjoy science fiction or dystopian stories and do not mind a lot of characters and multiple stories taking place at one time, this is a story for you.

Tell Her No Lies by Kelly Irvin

Tell Her No Lies, by Kelly Irvin, is a very fast paced, action packed, romantic suspense novel. The story takes many twists and turns that kept me guessing what was going to happen next as well as who killed Judge Geoffrey Fischer. Nina and her sister were taken in by their uncle and aunt, the Fischers, as young girls when their mother was unable to care for them. While they were well cared for, the Judge left them know very plainly when he disapproved of something they did. He also kept secrets from the family.

Nina and her friend try to do their own investigation into who killed the Judge. Instead of going to the police when they find out something, they strike out on their own and get hurt in the process. In this process, Nina is able to reflect on her friendships with Rick and Aaron. Nina also struggles with the Christian life, wondering if God is there for her.

This is a very good story. It covers topics such as gambling addiction and homelessness. I would highly recommend this story to anyone who enjoys suspenseful crime stories.

In Too Deep by Lynn H. Blackburn

In To Deep, by Lynn H. Blackburn is the second book in the Dive Team Investigation series. I have been waiting for this book to come out and it did not disappoint me. This is a great series that is best read in order. This book could be read as a stand alone story but since it references what happened in book one, I would not recommend it. After all they both are great, hard to put down, good clean stories with a lot of suspense and mystery, and of course romance.

In this story Adam is called away from his grandmother’s Sunday lunch to investigate a car and drive that went into the water. Dr. Sabrina Fleming is also called in to investigate the computer found in the car. Together Sabrina and the dive team find information that could implicate Adam’s family. And at the same time someone is out to get Sabrina.

OK, I love this series. I like the friendship and working relationship the characters have. There is friendly teasing but also respect for each others feelings and beliefs. The part in this story I really like, is when Adam is injured, his grandparents visit him in the hospital. His thoughts about his grandmother are changed by this one visit.

This story is so well written, I just did not want to put the book down until I know what has happened. But then the wait for the next book begins. I really think anyone who enjoys suspenseful crime stories will enjoy this story.

100 Extraordinary Stories for Courageous Girls by Jean Fischer

100 Extraordinary Stories for Courageous Girls by Jean Fisher, is an amazing books for girl 8 years and older. This is a pretty, hard covered book, with a ribbon book mark and a presentation page. This book would make a very special gift for a young girl. The book contains information for 100 women from the Bible, in history and from today that have made a difference in the world and how they have affected our faith. The information for each woman takes up just one page in the book. At the bottom of each informational page is a bible verse that corresponds with that woman. Opposite the informational page is a full page picture depicting the woman. The pictures are not actual pictures of the women but rather illustrated pictures.

While this book is meant for elementary age girls, I really enjoyed reading about the women and learning more about each of them. I really like how the author chose important information about each of the women to tell us who they were. From mothers, teachers, nurses and missionaries; the author uses women from all walks of life to help encourage the reader. I really like this book and feel it would make a great gift.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review.

Wait For Me by Susan May Warren

Wait For Me, by Susan May Warren, is the sixth book in the Montana Rescue series. This is the final book in the series that takes place in Montana and focuses on the PEAK rescue team. Pete and Jess are no longer with the team, but travel to Montana for Ben and Kacey’s wedding celebration. Pete and Jess have a history of getting together, getting engaged and then not seeing each other. Though they both continue to love each other, they try to move on with their lives.

After leaving the party with two others, Jess is involved in an accident that leaves the three running into the Montana wilderness, away from someone who is out to get them. A message is able to be relayed to the PEAK team and the team, Pete and Jess’s current fiance go in search of the three.

This is a good series that is best to be read in order. It is fast paced with a lot of action, suspense and romance. I enjoyed reading this story. It brings back the rest of the team as well as focuses on a couple new characters, yet there are not to many characters to keep straight.

Dead Sea Rising by Jerry B. Jenkins

Dead Sea Rising by Jerry B. Jenkins is the first book in a great new series, Dead Sea Chronicles. This story is so full of action and suspense. It grabbed me from page one. This book actually contains two stories in one. The modern day story is that of the Berman family. Nicole is an archeologist that has followed her father on digs from a young age. Now she is applying for permits to be allowed to dig in the Middle East. Being a Messianic Jew is making this process difficult for Nicole. While waiting for the permits, her mother is attacked in her home and Nicole and her father are suspects.

The second story is taken from the Old Testament. It focus on the birth of Abram and the steps Terah took to save his life.

The book is written in short chapter style, alternating between modern day and Old Testament time. The story is so well written it is easy to imagine being in both places and watching the characters go through their struggles. The characters are all well developed, strong characters. I appreciate the research the author has done to keep this book true to life. I also enjoyed the humor with the detectives.

This is a must read book for anyone who likes suspenseful stories or stories based on Old Testament times. I received a copy of this book as part of the launch team. This is my honest review.

A Seat by the Hearth by Amy Clipston

A Seat by the Hearth, by Amy Clipston, is the third book in An Amish Homestead Novel. This book takes over when book two ends, so it is best to read them in order. However; enough background information is given that this can be read as a stand alone book. One of the things that I am liking the best about this series is that there is a tragedy that is behind each of the stories. The stories show how the characters struggle with what has happened and how they eventually open their hearts and minds to moving on with their lives.

In this story we visit the Riehl family again. Mark is the son of a farmer, yet he has chosen to work for the Allgyer’s to save up the money to build his own house on this family’s farm. Priscilla Allgyer left her parents home years ago. Fleeing an abusive relationship, she has no option but to take her 6 year-old son home to her parents. Her mother is so excited to have her home, but her father has not changed. He is still controlling. He has given her orders that she must follow to be able to stay with them and give her son a home. When her father sees her visiting with Mark, he forces them to get married. Mark has the reputation of being a playboy and has never seen himself being married. Priscilla has been in abusive relationships and does not trust men.

This is an enjoyable story to read. I enjoy having the story go back to the characters from the previous books. I feel anyone who enjoys reading Amish stories will enjoy this story. I received a copy of this book from Zondervan Publishing, through BookLook Bloggers. This is my honest review.
