The Choice by Anne Greene

The Choice”, by Anne Greene, is a sweet short story based in Ft. Laramie Wyoming in 1850. This story was previously released as “ A Groom for Christmas”. I did notice some changes in wording, but it tells the same sweet story of love, caring for others and praising God.

Felicity and her father are traveling to the Oregon territory to claim 640 acres when he dies. With the wagon train leaving in just days, she must find a husband to claim the land. She advertises for a husband. The response is overwhelming and she quickly makes requirements including an application fee.. But the one man she wants does not have the money for the fee.

Ben is getting desperate, all his belongs were stolen and he has no way to get to California to pan for gold to pay his mother’s medical bills.

The two very stubborn people have to decide to go to Oregon and get the land she so desperately wants or go to California so he can pan for gold and be a preacher to the gold miners.

I enjoyed reading this story, even through I had already read it under the previous printing. It is a short story that can be read in just one quiet evening. The characters are well developed. The story is so well written it is easy to see the long line of men wanting to be chosen to be Felicity’s husband. It is easy to imagine the cold journey they have to Oregon as well.

I received a copy of this book from the author. This is my honest review.

Once Upon a Dickens Christmas by Michelle Griep

9781683222606__57528.1563212474.jpg

Once Upon A Dickens Christmas, by Michelle Griep, is a compilation of three stories set in Victorian England. The stories are written with well defined characters. Each of the stories contain mystery and romance as well as a guest appearance of Charles Dickens. These are three nice stories to enjoy to prepare for the Christmas season.

What a great set of stories, all with great lessons. The things I enjoyed about the stories is how the characters learn what is most important in the first story. In the second story we see the importance of telling the truth. In the third story we see how generous Bella was with the blind women and Edmund’s daughter as well as what Edmund would do for his daughter.

12 Days at Bleakly Manor is a story of several people brought together at a Manor that are all searching for something and only the one that lasts the full 12 days receives what they are seeking. Clara and Ben were to be married when he was take to jail for supposedly stealing from her family’s business. Penniless, Clara is at the Manor to gain income. Ben is at the Manor to gain his freedom.

A Tale of Two Hearts is a story of who will inherit from William’s uncle. William is pressured to have a wife, but instead makes a deal with Mina to pretend to be his wife.

The Old Lace Shop is a story of recently widowed Bella who decided to keep one of her late husband’s companies. She is the majority owner of a company of which her former boyfriend, Edmund, is the minority owner and runs the company.

In The Cradle Lies by Olivia Newport

In-the-Cradle-Lies_FINAL-672x1024

In The Cradle Lie, by Olivia Newport, is book two in the Tree of Life series. This is such a good series. While this is a good stand alone series, the book does reference characters from the previous story. This is a story of family history and how it affects those in future generations.

Jillina is a genealogist who lives with her her attorney father, Nolan. Together they work to help those in the community in need and especially the newcomers.

Tucker is in town on an extended skiing trip. He has recently lost his grandfather and has inherited the family company. He was also given a mystery envelope that reveals surprising dark secrets from his family’s history. With Jillian and her father’s help he is able to find family he was not aware he had.

This story is full of adventure, real life situations, suspense and a touch of romance. The story is split between modern day and 1936. Some of the things that stand out to me in this book is the caring the community has for each other. When a big snow storm affected businesses, other came to help. I also enjoyed reading the authors note at the end of the story and the brief history she used to set this story.

Amish Front Porch Stories by Wanda E. Brunstetter, Jean Brunstetter and Richelle Brunstetter

9781643521893

Amish Front Porch Stories, by Wanda, Jean and Richelle Brunstetter, is a wonderful collection of 18 very short stories that focus on faith and seeking wisdom. The short stories have main characters that are struggling with something in their life. The stories cover themes such as peace, love, joy, faith, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, meekness, and temperance. A couple that I especially enjoyed are the faith a young girl has that her dog will return, a very talented quilter that learns to put aside her pride and neighbors showing love to those who do harm to them.

I enjoyed reading these stories, they are a nice length to just sit and read for a few minutes. The stories tell of the simple lives of the Amish and of the struggles that even they go through.

Hatteras Island Mystery by Anne Greene

Hatteras Island Mustery, written by Anne Greene, is a short mystery story. Misty Gordon was photographing a wedding when her eye caught a certain man. She took so many photos of him, the bride was upset. The next morning while walking along the beach, she finds his body float in the ocean. After a short stay in the hospital, the two work together to find who attempted to murder him and why.

This is a really good story. The length is just right to read in an evening. The writing is so good it is easy to imagine being there, seeing it all happen. The characters are well introduced and easy to follow. The story is fast paced and full of mystery with the addition of romance.
