So Great a Love by Kristie Wilde

“He watches over you . . .

. . as the shepherd watches over his flock.”

So Great a Love is book 2 in the Joyful Creation Series by Kristie Wilde. The story is told in short simple sentences, great for the young reader. The story uses animals caring for their young to compare God’s love for us. The story shows mama bear protecting her cubs, koala bear helping her young, and lioness washing her cubs. The story tells us God’s love is wider than the desert, higher than the mountains, refreshing and delightful.

The story itself is just 20 pages and a couple pages at the end with the Bible scripture pertaining to each picture. This is a thin paperback for for children with beautiful watercolor type picture of nature and animals with their young. I think this is a great short story to help teach children of God’s love for us. I think the young child and reader will enjoy this book.

I received this book from the author through BookCrash, this is my honest review.

When God Made light, written by Matthew Paul Turner, illustrated by David Catrow

Shimmer and Shine

be a beacon so bright

’cause when God made you, child, God made light.”

When God Made Light is a book written for children 3 to 8 years of age. The story is about how God made light, all the different kinds of light and how it looked. Light flickered, dashed, blinked, flashed, glared, glimmered, flared and sparked. The story tells us light came from the stars the sun, the moon and even fireflies. The light warms us, it helps plants grow, and inspires us. “And all that light-every bright golden hue-is the very same light that God put inside you.”

This is a nice story to help children learn about light and why it is so important and all the places we can find it. The pages are so cute, with active children as well as a dog and cat on every page. The illustrations are very bold and colorful. The story is written in rhyme and just the right length to hold the young child’s attention as well as for the young reader.

This story is written by the creators of When God Made You. The author, Matthew Paul Turner has written 17 books. The illustrator, David Catrow is an editorial cartoonist who has illustrated over 70 children’s books.

365 Classic Bible Stories, inspired by Jesse Lyman Hurlbut’s Story of the Bible, illustrated by Alessia Girasole

365 Classic Bedtime Bible Stories is the perfect book to start a child on their way to taking time from each day to study from the Bible. Starting from Genesis and ending with Revelations, this book takes the majority of the Bible and makes it easy for children to understand. The illustration in this book is beautiful. The pictures are so clear and colorful and will keep the younger child’s attention while being read to. This is a great book for reading to the young child as well as a great book for the young reader .

This is a hard cover book with thicker than normal paper to help with tears from normal use. The paper is shiny to help keep it clean. The illustrations go all the way to the edge of the pages so the different colors show when the book is closed.

There are many things about this book that I really like. I like the bold font as it makes it easier to read. I like the index at the back to help the child find a specific person or event they are searching for. I love the red ribbon book mark. And, I like the very first page, being a page that the giver can write the child’s name and date of presentation. This will make a very nice gift.

Really Woolly Christmas Blessings by Bonnie Rickner Jensen, Illustrated by Donna Chapman

Really Woolly Christmas Blessings is written by Bonnie Rickner Jensen and illustrated by Donna Chapman. The book contains 18 sections that are titled “The Blessing of”. These blessing include Jesus and the things associated with his birth as well as different things we include in our Christmas traditions. Each of the 18 sections is made up of a bible verse, a poem and end with a short prayer.

This is a hard covered board book that is very durable for young children. The pages contain brightly colored pictures and are easy to clean. There are little animals that follow through the story for children to point to. The little lamb, bunny, duck and chipmunks are really adorable.

This is a cute story book for older toddlers. Being a board book I expected to see more pictures and less words. With the 8 lined poems on each pages, this book really is not a story book to read through at one sitting for the youngest children. With the sections ending in prayers, this is a good book to help young children learn to pray to God. I think this book could be used to introduce per-schoolers to devotional time.

A Very Thankful Prayer written by Bonnie Rickner Jensen and illustrated by Natalia Moore

I’m thankful for the seasons.

And I’m thankful God made fall.

But for His love that fills the earth.

I’m thankful most of all!”

A Very Thankful Prayer is written by Bonnie Rickner Jensen and illustrated by Natalia Moore. This is a cute hard cover board book written for young children. With adorable pictures of little animals, the author tells a story in poem of the different things the animals are thankful for. The animals are thankful for their warm clothing and cozy fire. They are thankful for the apples, pumpkins and the food the farmers grow. And they are thankful for their friends to play with and their family to spend time with and share bear hugs.

I just love Bonnie Rickner Jensen’s books. They are so fun to read to the young child. I enjoy how she writes a story that is easy for the child to understand. The pictures are so cute! The pictures have a wide variety of animals in them as well as things in nature to help the little one learn.

With just 24 pages this is the perfect length to hold a young child’s attention. The book is a good size for little ones to hold and the pages are nice and stiff so little ones can help turn pages. This would be a great book for a young child to teach them about fall and Thanksgiving.

Bible Trivia, Jokes, & Fun Facts For Kids by Troy Schmidt

Bible Trivia, Jokes and Fun Facts for Kids is a great book written by Troy Schmidt. I especially enjoyed the fun facts in this book. Using Isaiah 53:2-3, the author tells us “The passage says Jesus did not attract people by His looks. He was a regular-looking guy – not a hunky model or a tall, dark, and handsome carpenter. Isaiah also prophesied that Jesus would live a hard life (and it showed) but that He has an extraordinary love inside Him that drew many to Him.”

Schmidt uses jokes, fill in the blanks, word scrabble and words in words as some ways to help teach children the Bible in fun ways. This book, however, will be enjoyed by all ages. The jokes and facts within this book would be great openers at Bible Studies, youth groups and even Pastor’s sermons. The author also gives questions that can be used to build a conversation around Bible people and happening. Grade school children will spend hours looking through this book to find jokes to stump the people in their lives. The back of the book also has blank pages for write notes and additional jokes. The answers to the Bible trivia questions are provided up side down at the bottom of the pages so the reader can see their answers quickly and easily without searching for answers. This a great book that will help teach and provide lots of fun for all ages.

The Shepherd and the Sheep

The Shepherd and the Sheep is a lift-the-flap book for little children. The shepherd had 100 sheep and one day he found one sheep was missing. He went out to find it. He searched everywhere. He even searched a house and a boat.

Using bright colors, adorable pictures and a flap to search for the lost sheep the book teaches little children how much the shepard loves and care for his sheep. Jesus is the Good Shepherd and he cares for us, his sheep.

This is a wonderful children’s book that will encourage children to interact with the story as they learn how much God loves them. The story is short and easy to read for the young reader and the perfect size for reading to an active toddler. The book is a shiny, hard covered book that will hold up to little one’s sticky finger and the pages are durable weight folding pages. The pictures are so adorable, I just want to take dog and cuddle with him. Each page also included a rabbit and a little mouse that children will enjoy looking for. The little child will have many enjoyable hours looking behind the flap checking to see what is behind it. The book has parts of 3 different bible stories within the main story. Priced at just $4.99, this is the perfect book to give as a gift to a young child. This would make a perfect Valentine’s Day gift with the hearts on the cover and the theme of love.

Made for a Purpose by Kristie Wilde

This delightful book appeals to the “why?” in every child, inspiring them to discover God’s wisdom displayed in the world around, as well as within them.”

Made for a Purpose is book one in the Joyful Creation Series written by Kristie Wilde. With just 18 pages to the story, Kristie helps children understand why beaver have such long teeth, how ducks can swim, how woodpeckers are able to dig into trees, why frogs have eyes on their head, why turtle’s shells are so hard, how fish can swim under water, and how chipmunks can carry so much in their mouths. The author tells us that God made us to enjoy Him and the nature He made for us.

This is a cute paper back story for the young reader as well as the younger child who enjoys being read too. The child will learn from the beautiful pictures and the information in the story. I like how the author wrote such an informative little story that children will enjoy learning about animals and how they live. This is a book that will catch a little one’s interest, not just the story but through the pictures with picking out the animals and nature within them. The shiny book cover will be easy to clean sticky finger prints from. The pages are fairly thick to help with bending from the young child. I think any family with young children will benefit from having this book in their home.

jesusshowsmePenguin fathers snuggle Mother ducks lead. Wolves watch. Each animal knows the best way for its kind to live. God made them that way. He made you for a certain kind of life, too – a life with Him. Jesus shows you how…”

Jesus Shows Me, written by Callie Grant, is part of the Knowing My God series. This book focuses on John 15:9-14. With 18 beautiful pages, the child will the Bible verses as well as about different animals and how them protect and teach their young. The pages included real life photos of penguins, kangaroo, ducks, dolphins, wolves, zebra, and elephant. This book is meant for all ages of children. It will allow the baby to hear your voice, for the toddler, is helps teach them by talking about the pictures, and for the older child, they will learn the Bible verse as well as the information about the different type of animals. The book also supplies discussion questions at the end to help talk with the older child about friendship and love.

This is my favorite book in this series! I love that the author has used this particular Bible verse to teach about Gods love for us and our love for others. I also like how the author has used animals and how they care for their family. She provides information that I did not know, so this book will also be fun for adults to read to their children.

Read & Play Baby Bible

Who’s here? Mommy? Daddy? And Baby too? And who else watches over us and loves us every moment? Jesus, that’s who, and He is always with us?”

Do you have a little one who loves to be read too and played with? Then this book is for you! This soft cushioned, hard cover, board book has 22 different stories from the Bible, 12 from the Old Testament and 10 from the New Testament. Each story is just a few short sentences long and have play time recommendations for each story. The pages are so bright and colorful, they will keep a young child’s attention. Children will enjoy looking at the pictures of all the animals God created, that went on the boat with Noah, the shepherd’s sheep, the fish in the water, as well as kitties and puppies. Children will also get an idea of how to pray.

This is a very adorable book to share with your little one. I cannot wait to share it with my grandchild. I especially like the recommendations for interacting with the young child. I also think the pictures of all the animals will help teach a young child the names of different animals. I like how Gustavo Mazali illustrated the pictures using young children and baby animals. Many of the stories my children enjoyed are included in this book, Daniel in the Lions Den and Zacchaeus, However, there are some of the stories that a little one will not fully understand. The book appears very durable and easy to clean little finger prints off.
