Shadow of the Dagger by Anne Greene

Shadows of the Dagger is the first book in the CIA Operatives series by Anne Greene. In the past year Nicole has lost her husband and her parents. Her home has been searched and she received a note demanding she return a map she does not have. Her brother, Ian, is in Turkey for an archaeological dig and his interpreter has been murdered. He fears for Nicole’s safety and convinces her to leave Texas and be with him in Turkey. When she gets to Istanbul, he is not there to meet her and her purse gets stolen. CIA agent ,Josh Baruch is there, helps her check into her hotel and look for her brother. They find his room ransacked. When they go to the local police, Ian does not trust them. In a strange city, without her purse and with her brother missing; Nicole is forced to rely on Josh for help.

Through their search for Ian, several things happen that cause Nicole to not trust Josh. Josh is not honest with Nicole, she thinks he is on vacation in Turkey and does not know of his involvement with the CIA. So when the man from the police station shows up, she trusts him instead.

What a page turning story! It is so full of adventure, suspense and mystery, with a touch of romance, that it is hard to put down. There are a few things that really stand out to me in this story. Nicole very quickly trusts Josh, even though she does not know him. I know my reaction to the situation would have been very different. Nicole has very strong Christian beliefs and Josh has very strong Jewish beliefs. Yet they respect each other and share freely with each other.

I totally enjoyed this story, I enjoyed the rich history the author gives to the area. The writing is so descriptive it is easy to imagine the surroundings and what is happenings. The characters are well introduced and easy to follow.

I received a copy of this book from the author. This is my honest review.

The Gryphon Heist by James R. Hannibal

43838301

The Gryphon Heist, by James R. Hannibal, is book one of two in the Talia Inger series. Talia is fresh out of CIA training and hoping to get assigned to the Moscow desk but instead is assigned to a department in Eastern Europe called “Other”. As a new agent she gets assigned to a case that is so action packed and full of surprises she doesn’t know who she can trust. She has had ongoing health issues since the death of her father. As she works the case, things are revealed that let her know his death was not a simple accident.

This story is action packed almost from page one and doesn’t slow down until the end. This is not a fast read. There is also a lot of violence with the fighting and killings. There is so much happening in the story with so many characters, I struggled with keeping up with it at times. We see the Christian aspect of the story through one of people assigned to the case and how it has changed him and how that affects Talia.

I received a copy of this book from the Revell Reads Blogging Program. This is my honest review.

Cold Aim by Janice Cantore

cold-aim-2-533x800.jpg

Cold Aim, by Janie Cantore, is book three in the Line of Duty series. This book is awesome! The characters are well defined, following through from the previous two books in the series. The story is well told and very believable. The story is full of action and suspense.

Rogue Hollow is suffering from a terrible fire when the FBI asks for one of their witnesses in a high profile case to be kept there for safety. When the witness sneaks into town and is seen by one of the extra workers in the area, her cover is blown. The person after her will stop at nothing to get her. The small local law enforcement are working around the clock to stop him.

The romance between Police Chief Tess O’Rourke and Pastor Oliver Macpherson is questioned by some of his parishioners, and even themselves. Friends don’t think they are a good match, that they are like oil and water. So they have to work to prove friends wrong.

I have enjoyed this whole series. The stories are written so good, with enough background information, that they do not have to be read in order to follow. The author is a retired police officer, and it shows in the realistic stories that she writes. This one focuses on human trafficking and contains numerous murders and several different crimes needing to be solved. I enjoyed how the internet and hacking is used as a mean for finding information. I appreciate the Christian aspect to the story as well. It is light and not preachy. Tess’s father was quick to turn to prayer in times of difficulties, and this is something she is learning. I would highly recommend this story to anyone who enjoys police stories.

Vow of Justice by Lynette Eason

mail (2)

Vow of Justice, by Lynette Eason, is book four in the Blue Justice series. This series follows the St. John family through crime situations. The book is written so that it works as a stand alone story as well. But it is so good, you will want to go back and read the whole series. This book is about FBI agent Linc and his partner Allison.

This story takes off with the first page and doesn’t stop until the end. There is so much action within the story, it is hard to find a place to put the book down. While the author had help from real agents with writing this book, some of the parts were a little hard to believe. The book is also full of suspense. It is easy to think someone in the agency is connected to the bad guys with how the trouble finds Allison where ever she goes. Even with all the injuries she sustains and others believe she has been killed, she keeps working to find the bad guys.

I would recommend this series to anyone who enjoys crime stories. There is romance in the story between the partners, but it does not over power the story.

Deadly Intentions by Lisa Harris

mail (3)

Deadly Intentions by Lisa Harris is a stand alone Romantic Suspense Christian novel. Detective Josh Solomon’s wife was killed in a supposed home invasion. Now months later, he receives a call from her co-worker and friend Caitlyn. Two other co-workers have died recently and Caitlyn feels the deaths are connected to a project they all worked on. And now she is being targeted. When Josh brings this to his superior he is told to take a vacation and forget about the deaths. Instead Josh and Caitlyn work together to find out the truth behinds the deaths.

This is a fantastic crime story. The story is full of action and suspense right from the beginning. The writing is so clear, it is easy to envision what is happening. The characters are well defined, with strong faith and Christian beliefs that get them through the struggles they are forced into. Yet, the story is not preachy to turn off the reader. I would recommend this story to anyone who enjoys good, clean “who done it”crime stories.

The Watch on the Fencepost by Kay DiBianca

The-Watch-Large-Front.jpg

The Watch on the Fencepost, by Kay DiBianca, is a story of Kate Frasier, who lost her parents in a questionable car accident. After the accident, Kate is introduced to people from her mother’s past. One of whom is the owner of the watch Kate found on a fence post and they quickly become friends.

Kate’s father use to leave her little clues to follow to find things he has for her. With her birthday approaching, her father had planned well in advance the clues he has left for her. Together with her new friend, she searches for subsequent clues to find what he has left her.

This is good easy to read mystery of the who done it type with a touch of romance written in. The story is very well written with not a lot of characters to keep straight. It is a good clean story with good lessons. Some of the things I enjoyed about this story, other than the mystery, is the friendships that develop. Kate and her mechanic both had negative feelings about each other, but with a little help from comments her father made in the past, they are able to see they were mistaken about each other. The mechanic felt Kay felt going to the shop was beneath her, which actually Kay was just shy. This points out that sometimes we are too quick to make judgment without know all the facts.

Chosen People by Robert Whitlow

_225_350_Book.2674.cover

Chosen People, by Robert Whitlow, is an outstanding modern day legal thriller. This is a very suspenseful legal drama that covers Atlanta and Israel. Lawyers Hana and Jakob work together to track down who was behind the terrorist attacks that killed Gloria Neuman. Hana is able to renew a friendship with investigator Daud. Even while being surrounded with danger, Hana and Daud develop a relationship. And with the attack on Jakob, that left him unable to drive, he become friends with a very aggressive driver.

I really enjoyed reading this book. I like how the author has written an outstanding story and blends in the Christian teachings as well. The story is very fast paced, with a lot of drama and action. The author has written in detail to help the reader visualize being there. I also liked the background information the author gives of the Jewish and Christian beliefs of the Arab Israeli and their country.

James and Lee: The Great Scare by Gregory James

James-and-Lee-Large-Front

James and Lee, the Great Scare by Gregory James is truly an amazing story. The story takes place 200 hundred years after the destruction of the earth’s surface. People are now living under the surface of the earth in tunnels. James and Lee are brothers who are working on a time machine to take them back in time. They are also the town’s librarians and are the ones people go to when they have problems. The latest string of problems is that several people have had things go missing at 6 PM the same night. James and Lee are called upon to try to find the missing items and people.

This book is an action filled satire. There are so many things I enjoyed about this book. I found myself laughing while reading. One of the things that stands out for me in this book is that those who were trying to save the earth, as we know it today, are the ones that caused the destruction. Another is the things that go missing are the things the people treasured the most. I really enjoyed the part where the author writes about the destruction of the earth’s surface. He goes through the different steps that are taken to use vehicles and pollute the earth the least. At one point hamsters are used to run the cars, until it is discovered the hamsters pollute the earth.

I just loved this book and I feel a lot of others will also enjoy it. With just 186 pages, it is a great book to read to just get lost for an evening.
