I called the staff to send a maze runner to find me.

Or maybe you have worked on a project with others and someone asked, “Where are we with the T.P.S. report?”

That kind of question is more mechanical or technical than a question about the essence or being of a thing. No one asks what the T.P.S. report thinks about itself.

I am not talking about those kinds of “How did I get here?” moments.

I am talking about being in a relationship with a significant other where it started off great, but along the way, things changed. Suddenly, you two grew distant. Then, you wonder,

“How did we get here?”

Maybe you have felt stuck in a job. Instead of following after the dreams of your youth, “reality” crept in and you settled for something less than what you hoped would happen.

Maybe you’ve been overwhelmed by bills, the amount of debt you owe, and asked the how did I get here question…

I mean those types of situations where there is a literal explanation to the “how” certain things went certain ways, certain decisions were made, and how those things culminated in an unexpected season of life
