Alaskan Escape by MaryAnn Landers is book four in the Alaskan Women of Caliber series. This is a wonderful series of fictional stand alone stories of strong courageous women who have followed their husbands to Alaska, even when they did not want to go. In this story we meet Grace, Bill and their five children. After an incident at work, Bill decides to leave their home and take their family on a commercial fishing boat. With no experience and being left with the boat owners past bills, they finish their lease and go back home. But Bill is felt called to buy his own boat and return as a shrimper.
This is a nicely written story that is very easy to follow and imagine what is happening. The story is filled with adventures, suspense and family love. I admire the character of Grace and the strength she has to put her husbands dreams above her own. When her life becomes a struggle, she turns to prayer and Bible memorization. I especially enjoyed the part of her daughter sharing with her the different Bible verses and their meanings. It is fun to read of how the children all worked together with their parents.
I voluntarily received a complimentary copy of this book from the author, this is my honest review.
About the Book
I’D WORKED FEARLESSLY ALONGSIDE MY HUSBAND,
THEN FEAR GRIPPED ME IN A HOLD I WAS DESPERATE TO ESCAPE.
When an accident forces us to change our livelihood, my husband, Bill, suggests our family of seven embark on a commercial fishing venture in Southeast Alaska. Though life on an ocean vessel sounds challenging, it may answer our prayers for financial stability.
Alaskan waters are captivating, beautiful, and abound in opportunities to teach our growing family. Yet, the chaotic, ever-changing environment grinds with my obsession for safety and pensive personality. We find ourselves left in the wake of failure and unanswered questions. Amid the turmoil, I fight to find my role in keeping the family afloat.
When given a second chance to succeed with our own boat, will my family and marriage break deep when waves of despair rush in filling me with doubt? Or will we find the reserves to weather the storm?
